Anthony S. Pitch, author of the award-winning book, The Burning of Washington: The British Invasion of 1814, gave a Veterans Day talk at the first of two Chevy Chase Historical Society programs marking the bicentennial of the War of 1812. At the end of his lecture, a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was sung by all who attended the event at the Jane E. Lawton Community Center, 4301 Willow Lane, in the Town of Chevy Chase.
The Burning of Washington, a selection of the History Book Club and recipient of the Maryland Historical Society’s annual book award, was available for sale and signing by the author at the conclusion of his talk.
