• History Go Round - Mansion at Strathmore Tour and Tea

Reserve Now – Space is limited!

Join us for a tour of the Mansion at Strathmore followed by tea in the Strathmore Tea Room!

Did you know that the imposing, gated mansion on Chevy Chase Circle and the Mansion at Strathmore were once owned by two brothers, Charles and William Corby? And that they made their fortunes by baking bread and developing bakery technology that revolutionized the industry?

By special arrangement, Strathmore docents will lead us through the historic home, once the manor house of Charles Corby’s 400-acre farm. The mansion now serves Montgomery County as a multi-disciplinary arts center and intimate performance venue. Following the tour, participants will enjoy tea in the former music room of the mansion, where the pipes from Charles Corby's full pipe organ are still visible. Pianist Bob Gold, a Strathmore favorite, will perform background music during the tea.

Participants will gather at Strathmore at 11:00 am and the tour will begin shortly thereafter. After the tour, participants will have a brief time to view the current art exhibition in the mansion or visit the gift shop. Tea will begin at 1:00 pm. A tea specially blended for Strathmore will be served with a light lunch of tea sandwiches, pastries, and other savories and sweets.

The price for the tour and tea is $30. Space is limited and reservations must be paid for in advance. Directions to the meeting point at Strathmore will be provided to all registrants. Participants must provide their own transportation and free parking is available on the ground of the mansion.
